Liberate Meditation App

Meditation has become a grounding practice that prepares me for my day thanks to the Liberate Meditation App. It offers 5 minute, 10 minute and 20 minute (the options!) meditations and talks for the BIPOC community by the BIPOC community - many which are free.

I’ve found that guided meditations offered by nurturing and safe teachers I can trust is key to my practice. For me, these elements are present in this app - I’m so grateful to let go and have Liberate practitioners hold space for me.

Their Liberate Fund offers free Liberate Plus subscriptions. I invite non-BIPOC to consider donating as a way to support our BIPOC community’s healing and liberation.

I was introduced to The Feeling Wheel by BEAM. They describe it as “a great tool to help expand our emotional intelligence and vocabulary.

For me, it offers an opportunity to authentically explore how I’m feeling through a multitude of options that help me put words to how my heart is. Sometimes it offers a quick way to check in with myself and sometimes I use it as a journal prompt.

I recall when BEAM founder Yolo Akili, introduced it at a summit I was attending. Yolo said many of us automatically respond to the question, “How are you doing?” with an action-based response, ie “I’m busy” - a reflection of our social conditioning.

As we make space to honor our hearts, the home of our feelings, can we pause and respond to “How are you doing?” from our corazon?
